Zilpah Alice (Lewis) Carter, beloved native of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away peacefully at the Olathe Medical Center on February 28, 2026, at the age of 104. Born on June 2, 1921, in Louisburg.
Her early years were spent in her cherished hometown, where she graduated from Louisburg High School. On September 27, 1947, she married Riley D. Carter, and together they created a loving home. Their life journey took them from Louisburg to Mission from 1962 to 1977, before returning once again to Louisburg, where Zilpah lived until her passing.
Throughout her life, Zilpah was known for her myriad of talents and accomplishments. She was an ardent quilter, enjoying the delicate art of needlework and producing beautiful pieces that embodied her creativity and dedication. She loved nature and was often found hiking and walking, relishing the beauty around her. Zilpah was also an avid artifact and coin collector, and her passion for reading enriched her life deeply. Her love for gardening allowed her to nurture a splendid garden of flowers on their expansive four-acre property, bringing joy to all who had the pleasure of witnessing its bloom.
Zilpah leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will fondly remember her warmth and spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Carrie Lewis, as well as her siblings: Nina Kubitzki, Kenneth Lewis, Ena Cottrell, Charles Lewis, Clarice Carter, Donald Lewis, and Thomas Lewis. Her beloved husband, Riley Carter, also preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Dengel & Son Mortuary - Louisburg Chapel, 1 Aquatic Drive, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be held at the Louisburg Cemetery, following the service.
Zilpah will be remembered not only for her many talents but also for her loving heart and the legacy of kindness she leaves behind. Her spirit will live on in the memories of those she touched, a testament to a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the charity of your choice in memory of Zilpah.
