Zoila Matamorez
Zoila Matamorez, 69, a Santa Fe native and longtime Albuquerque resident, passed away peacefully 9/19/2024 surrounded by family.
Zoila was vivacious, compassionate and loving. She was married to Ernest Matamorez for 47 years. They had two sons Ernest Jr. and Jonathan. Beloved family friend Dr. Kavita Rajasekhar graciously assisted during her illness and final days.
Zoila was born 8/13/1955 to Josie and Jose Arsenio "Archie" Romero and grew up in the Village of Agua Fria. She graduated from West Mesa in 1973 and worked many years at Amity leather company. She received her medical assistant certificate from PIMA and served 20 years until retirement as a child advocate at Young Children's Health Center and later cared for UNM employees as Supervisor of Medical Records at EOHS. She went the extra mile to make sure everyone felt heard and respected.
Zoila had six sisters and five brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Archie Romero. She is survived by siblings Annette Nigh, Bernadette Baca, Leroy Romero (Berlinda), Alfred Romero, Filo Mena Lopez (Ralph), Kathy Wujick, Elizabeth Suazo, Gus Romero, Julius Romero, Sylvia Herrera (Daniel) and dozens of nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
Zoila was happiest cooking for her family, especially for holidays and Sunday dinners. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved decorating her home. The family is thankful for all the love expressed by her many friends and relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday, 10/10/2024 at 6:30 pm at Gabaldon Memorial Chapel 1000 Old Coors SW, a rosary will follow at 7:00 pm. Final visitation will be Friday 10/11/2024 at 10:30 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 5415 Fortuna Rd NW with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery 1900 Edith Blvd NE.
