Ellsworth E. "Ellie" "Ike" Eychner, Sr., of S. Main St., passed away Friday, January 24, 2014, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse. He was born March 9, 1930, in Rome, NY, a son of Erwin and Catherine Carpenter Eychner. He received his education in the Augusta School House and Madison Central School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. On July 4, 1952, Ellsworth married Norene A. Borayi in Oriskany Falls, a loving union of over 61 years. Ellie had been a police officer in Oriskany Falls and later was a painting, plumbing and heating contractor. Following that, he worked at Hubbell Highway Signs in New York Mills for 25 years until retiring. He also owned and operated The Village Shop in Oriskany Falls for many years and was a vendor at weekend craft shows. Active in his community, Ellie was an exempt member of the Oriskany Falls Fire Department, a life member of the American Legion Post #569 in Oriskany Falls, and a member of the Cassidy Hollow Rod and Gun Club. Surviving are his wife, Norene; his children, Cathy and Jess English, of Knoxboro, and Ellsworth E. "Skip" Eychner, Jr., of Oriskany Falls; grandchildren, Aften and Cody Ford, of Hamilton, and Cane'a and Jake Stone, of Oriskany Falls; great-grandchildren, Kade Wyatt Ford and Gracie Ann Stone; brother-in-law, Martin Titsworth, of Arizona City, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his sister, Ellenora Titsworth. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014, from the Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville. Interment with military honors will be held in the Hillside Cemetery, Oriskany Falls, in the spring. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., prior to the service.
