Michael P. Hynes, 76, met the Lord on Thursday, October 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle against illness. He was an extraordinary man that dedicated his life to serving the community.
Michael attended Madison Central School and furthered his education at Morrisville State University and MVCC. He spent several years serving the local communities as a member of the Eaton Fire Department as well as a member of the Scuba Diving Rescue Team. Michael retired from Morrisville State College in 2015 and then returned to community service as the Town Justice in the Town of Madison. Michael was meticulous and fair on the bench and was respected for his integrity as a judge. He served nearly 20 years before retiring. Michael was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta and served as an Elder for several years.
In Michael's earlier years, he loved roller skating at Madison Lake, restoring old cars, gardening, fishing, car shows, NASCAR and family cook outs. Michael also loved hot rods and spent years restoring his 1932 Ford Deuce coupe.
On October 10, 1997, Michael married Helen. They were married for 27 years. They loved to travel together, most recently celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary by going to Nashville. A few months later they went on a cruise to Alaska, planned by Michael as a gift to his wife. Michael was a very loving husband, father, and (great) grandfather.
Michael is survived by his wife, Helen Hynes, two daughters, Angella Hynes (Mike) of Waterville and Michelle Hynes of Oriskany Falls, three stepdaughters Tracey Lewis of Madison, Wendy Eastman (Robert) of Madison and Renee Neidhart (Brian) of Waterville. He is also survived by a sister, Emily Hynes of West Virginia, a brother, Daniel Hynes (Pam) of Oriskany Falls and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Michael is predeceased by his parents F Robert. Hynes and Elizabth Jane (Rashford) Hynes and siblings Eulonde T. Volkman, Sharon E. Roher and Scott B. Hynes.
His family was his pride and joy, and he will be deeply missed. All are welcome to attend his Funeral Service held at the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, 2345 Route 26, Oriskany Falls, NY 13425 on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 1:00pm.
