Obituary of Zufan Ghershen Fessha
Zufan Ghershen of Houston, Texas, Adi Bana, Eritrea, and Asmara, Eritrea, passed
away after a short illness in the early hours of August 25, 2024, surrounded by her
family members. Zufan was born in Geza Banda, Asmara, Eritrea, on November 10,
1962, to her late parents, Grazmach Ghershen Fessha and Ms. Turu Ambaye Woldu.
She was raised in Geza Banda, Asmara, and attended Emperor Haile Selassie High
School. She later graduated from the Nursing School of Asmara in 1980.She earned a
degree in Nursing and began her career at the Ministry of Health in Asmara, where
she worked from 1980 to 2007.
On September 6, 1991, Sister Zufan married Mr. Beyan Tesfagiorgis in a church
ceremony at Geza Kenisha. They were blessed with four children: Yonathan, Mesfun,
Betiel, and Ghideon..Zufan migrated to the United States in March of 2007. Upon
arrival in the U.S., she pursued further education in nursing, obtaining her Registered
Nurse (RN) license. During her life in Houston, Zufan saw her children through school
and was a pillar of support to her family.
For many,Zufan was a loving mother, a supportive sister, a dependable adviser,
and a devoted friend. She was known for her deep faith and trust in God. Sister Zufan
seldom took breaks or vacations, always working multiple jobs to support her family
and extended relatives. Those who knew her admired her unwavering resolve and
commitment to her loved ones. Zufan is survived by her husband, Beyan Tesfagiorgis;
her sister, Lemlem Ghershen & Besrat Ghershen; her brothers, Hagos, Tsegay, and
Yiftah Ghershen; her nieces Hirity, Hermela, Miriam, Rahel, Tsion, Awet, Martha,
Leah, and Rahel; and her nephews Meharena, Nathaniel, Amanuel, Mike, Yosef, and
Abel. She was predeceased by her brother, Major Mulugeta Ghershen.
Zufan will always be remembered by her family and many friends as a humble,
humorous, and dependable person.
