Gail Christian Obituary
Gail was born on June 17, 1942 at Parks Victory Hospital in Napa to Bill and Edna Fields. She was the second of three daughters. Her siblings were Betty and Diane Fields.
Gail spoke fondly of growing up in Napa and picking prunes to earn money for school clothes. She enjoyed Home Economics at school and was active with the diving team while at Napa High School. She was especially proud of winning second place finish in the diving competition at Sutro Baths in San Francisco.
After high school, Gail worked at the telephone company before moving to Long Beach where she found work as a police dispatcher. In 1982 Gail returned to Napa and began working at Auberge Du Soleil in Rutherford as a banquet organizer. It was there that she met her future husband, Joe. He would become her husband and soulmate for the next 43 years.
In 1984 they moved to Trinidad in Humboldt County. Gail enrolled at Humboldt State and majoring in Elementary Education. Gail became a much-loved teacher of Kindergarteners and first graders at Orick Elementary School. She later served for two years as Principal and Superintendent before retiring in 2008.
Gail was a woman of many talents. She loved children, was an expert seamstress, quilter, great cook and baker, loved outdoor gardening, raising animals, painting and creating mosaics. She also loved to travel that took her to the Galapagos Islands, Machu Pichu and to Rome. She visited the National Quilt Museum in Paduca, Kentucky as well as Graceland while touring the southern states.
Gail is survived by her husband, Joe Christian, sister Betty Lorenz, daughter Molly Morgan and foster daughters Katherine and Patricia Kester from Washington.
Donations may be given in lieu of flowers to Providence Hospice Napa Valley. Their support for Gail's final months was invaluable.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 6404 Washington St. Yountville, CA 94559 on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11 a.m. Gail Christian
