Rebecca Jackson Obituary

Rebecca (Becky) Lynn Jackson, MD passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at home on September 25, 2024. She was born July 7, 1957, in Willard, Ohio to Dr Richard and Martha Jackson.

Becky received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Colorado, Master of Science from Baylor University, and medical degree from Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. Accepted to Stanford Plastic Surgery, she graduated in 1991, having done fellowships in Japan and Scotland. She had the makings of a gifted microsurgeon and proceeded to a one-year fellowship at the famed Buncke clinic at Davies Medical Center in San Francisco. Upon completion, she continued as an attending physician. In 1994, Becky was invited to join Napa Valley Plastic Surgery where she practiced until 2018.

During her residency at Stanford, she gave up vacation time to travel with Stanford's international medical team, Interplast, to perform plastic surgery to under-resourced communities in third world countries. After multiple trips to China, Becky led Interplast efforts in Mongolia; she later continued on her own, totaling 15 missions. Becky hosted Mongolian surgeons and patients at her Napa home. She singlehandedly introduced microsurgery to Mongolia. Becky further continued global humanitarian reconstructive surgery with different volunteer organizations serving in South America, Bangladesh, Malawi, the Philippines, Laos, and Guatemala. Later in her career, she led yearly teams to Antigua, Guatemala for the organization, Faces of Hope.

Becky was humble and selfless and was always available to anyone who needed her help. She was a beloved community member who continued humanitarian service, where she was awarded Napa's Health Professional of the Year in 2001; Queen of the Valley Hospital awarded her the Sister Ann McGuinn Award for Justice in 2012 for her willingness to care for those in need regardless of their ability to pay. Additionally, she co-founded Napa County's Taboo Tattoo program, removing tattoos from young people who wished to leave gang life.

Apart from her professional life, Becky was a fiercely competitive athlete and stellar musician. She enjoyed an active life by golfing, scuba diving throughout the world, sky diving and running. Later in Napa, she renewed her interest in music and played viola with a quartet. Becky was also passionate about her Australian Shepards, especially Bosco and Wally, and her cats.

Moreover, Becky was an accomplished cook, sharing old family recipes and experimenting with new recipes and making them her own. She loved to host events at home, from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas, and embraced all as her own family.

Despite suffering a head injury in 2018, followed by nine months of intense rehabilitation, Becky maintained a positive attitude and enjoyed life. She is survived by her life partner and wife of 33 years, Kristi Lesnewich, and her brother Lanny Jackson (Julie), bother-in-law Tim Lesnewich, sister-in-law Julie Lesnewich (Peter), five nephews and a niece.

We extend our appreciation to Providence Home Health, Palliative and Hospice Care, and special thanks to Jayce, Regina, Stacy, Jamie, Amanda and Jennifer.

A public celebration of life will be held November 1, 2024 at 11am, at Tulocay Cemetery, Napa.

Becky I miss you so much! I think of you often and today I was scrolling through pics and this popped up. I've known you since my early twenties at the Buncke Clinic. I would sit in our office while you played Tetris and you would give me relationship advice. Soon thereafter you fell in love with Kristi and your whole world became even bigger. The parties, celebrations, love and laughter were beyond all expectation. Memories forever imprinted on my heart. Becky, thank you for being you, for loving life and sharing your magic with all those you met along the way. Miss you my friend. Forever and always, Jenny

Dr Jackson did my reconstruction surgery after a mastectomy. She so skillfully performed a trans flap and 24 years later, it still comes close to being a real breast. She also gave me Botox many times when she worked with Dr McClure. What a skilled doctor and beautiful woman

I met Dr. Jackson (Becky) at QVH shortly after she was hired by Napa Valley Plastic Surgery. She was scheduled to perform a delicate surgery on the hand of one of our new physical therapists (employed by Napa Valley Physical Therapy Center). The PT was scheduled for a one-day procedure. As I stood, in the same-day surgery bay, listening to Dr. Jackson, I was deeply impressed by her approach, knowledge, caring manner, and style of preparing her patient (mentally and emotionally) for her surgery. That day I felt immense respect for this new Napa physician-specialist. Most surgeons let the nurses carry out the discharge procedures. That day, however, the PT was given discharge instructions by her surgeon, in person. Dr. Jackson even escorted us out of the hospital. Over the years, there were many more encounters, all of which increased my deep respect and admiration for Becky. One winter day as we sat on the couch in her office, discussing an upcoming surgery, she noticed a small movement in my scarf. When I showed her the 3-week old rescue kitten I was carrying, she asked to hold her, then placed her on the couch, and welcomed her to sit with us. Her gentle kindness with that tiny kitten was incredible to observe (especially as she bottle-fed her). Those are only two of the many events I witnessed over the years of knowing Becky. Kristi, I can't begin to know your deep emotional pain and grief, yet I do have some idea of the overwhelming devastation that one feels at such a loss of an intimate and long-term partner. You were instrumental in her care after her brain injury. That speaks volumes for your deep love for Becky. My heart is flowing over with tears hearing of your loss. I pray for your strength in the weeks and months ahead of you. Yours is not an easy road, yet with all that has been said about your love and dedication, I am convinced you will ask for support as you feel the need and the community will be there for you without question. May you find comfort in the memories and frequent embraces of family and friends.

My mom had a recurrence of Breast Cancer which ended up with a large open wound on her chest. Dr. Jackson did a trans flap to cover the wound. It was a very long and tedious surgery and I was told that she was one of the only surgeons in this area that did them. She was kind, thorough and took good care of my mother. My mom would always say after Dr. Jackson left the room how sweet she was and "What a dynamite smile she had." Thank you for being part of my mother's cancer journey, Dr. Jackson. I'll be lifting you up in prayer.

One of my favorite memories with Becky is a day where she convinced me it would be a good idea to scuba dive with herself and Kristi - My response was "did you see Jaws ?" I was terrified , she was smiling and somehow managed to convince me this was a good idea
I went on vacation , during that time I hired a dive instructor and scuba dived ( I could not wait to send the underwater pictures that the dive master took of me to show Becky !! )
I emailed the pictures , proud to show my friend anticipating a exciting response from her and Kristi ...... I ended up with a lengthy back and forth of me convincing her that this in fact is as me ! and not photoshopped
When Becky realized that it was real she was my biggest supporter while I earned my scuba certification.
We did go diving and we had great fun
Becky was a exceptional person with a heart of gold
Our friendship with always live in my heart
I love you my sweet friend

Kristi. I´m so incredibly sorry for the loss of your love, Becky. I´m in shock that the world lost an amazing human. I loved her dry sense of humor and that wry smile.
