Thomas Cunningham Obituary

Thomas M. Cunningham Jr. passed away on May 11, 2025 at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, CA after a long illness. He was born on June 22, 1933 in Hilo, Hawaii to parents Thomas M. Cunningham, Sr and Sarah Todd Cunningham.

Tom attended St. Mary's High School in Berkeley, CA where he excelled in football earning All Catholic Prep Team. He received a Bachelor's Degree from St. Mary's College in Moraga, CA.

He served in the United States Army and competed as a swimmer representing the military. A highly accomplished athlete, he earned multiple medals at the prestigious Keo Nakama swim meet in Honolulu.

He began his insurance career with AAA California Automobile Association. He later worked for GEICO as a Regional Manager of the 13 Western States. To finish out his career, he joined USAA covering the Napa and Sonoma regions.

Tom enjoyed golfing trips, and traveling across the U.S. with his wife. He especially enjoyed visiting historical sites and, his yearly trips to his beloved Hawaii to enjoy what he loved most, bodysurfing at Hapuna. He was a loyal member of Seniors in Retirement in Napa.

Tom is predeceased by his parents, brothers Michael and William, sisters, Myra Yanagihara, and Nani Roback and, grandson Donovan Thomas Barr.

He is survived by his loving wife Bernadette "Pat" (Teves) of 67 years, daughters Suzanne (Bill) Andrade of Hilo, HI, Michele Cunningham of Sacramento, CA and son, Thomas M. (Jenny) Cunningham, III of Woodinville, WA and, numerous nephews and, nieces.

Papa's antics and jokes will be missed by his grandchildren, Adam Andrade, Aubree Barr, Brent Barr and, Jack Cunningham.
