Charles Slanicky Obituary

Charles J. "Chuck" Slanicky, age 75, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1983, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, at AccentCare Inpatient Hospice Center in Naperville, surrounded by his daughters. He was born on November 26, 1947, in Chicago.

On a memorable journey spanning 49 years, Chuck was married to his soulmate, Maureen (nee Bauer). Together, they were blessed with three loving daughters: Julie (Steven) Sarno of Montgomery, IL, Megan (James) Gille of Waukesha, WI, and Kara (John) Swanson of Sugar Grove, IL. His pride and joy extended to his grandsons, Tyler and Parker Swanson, who brought immeasurable joy into his life.

Chuck was the cherished son of the late (Chicago Police Officer) Charles and Mary Anne (nee Pajkos) Slanicky. He was the youngest brother of the late Dennis (Shirley) of Houston, TX, and Robert "Bob" (Carol) of Palatine, IL. He was a fond brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, and friend of many.

Chuck spent his formative years in the southwest side of Chicago where he laid the foundation of his education at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Grammar School and was part of the inaugural graduating class of St. Lawrence High School in 1965. He pursued his passion for technology and engineering, earning an Associate's Degree from DeVry Technical Institute and then completing his Bachelor's in Engineering from Marquette University.

With a strong work ethic and dedication, Chuck devoted 32 years of his life to Western Electric, later becoming part of the AT&T family, Bell Laboratories, and Lucent. He further honed his skills, earning a Master's Degree in Project Management from George Washington University, a testament to his lifelong commitment to learning and professional excellence.

Chuck was a man of diverse passions, finding immense joy in both watching and playing sports. When asked about his favorite pastime, he would always say, "Anything with a ball!" His enthusiasm was contagious, and he shared his love for games with everyone around him. Additionally, he found solace and purpose in his faith, actively serving as a Eucharistic Minister at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for many years.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Mercy Hospital in Aurora, Rush Copley ICU, Bickford of Aurora, and AccentCare Hospice of Naperville for their dedicated care during Chuck's final days. Additionally, the family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the guidance and care Chuck received by his Nephrologist, Dr. Hsien-Ta Fang of Edward Medical Group, over the past decade.

In celebration of Chuck's life, a visitation will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023, 1:00-5:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 30, 11:00 AM at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.

Interment will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests for donations to be directed to Bickford of Aurora in Chuck's memory to support the compassionate care provided to His wife, Maureen, as she navigates her Alzheimer's journey.

Charles will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, kindness, and passion for life will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of his journey. May he rest in eternal peace.
