Don Hagmeyer Obituary

Don R. Hagmeyer, age 92, U.S. Army Korean War veteran, a resident of Naperville since 1968, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.

Don was born in Quincy, IL on April 1st, 1930. He was the first child of Richard J. and Hazel (nee Kettlekamp) Hagmeyer. When Don was in eighth grade the family moved to Joliet where he graduated from Joliet Township High School and received his Associates Degree from Joliet Junior College. He then went on to complete his education and graduate from Illinois State University in Normal.

Subsequent to completing his college education, Don was drafted and entered the United States Army. While in the service he graduated from Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Corp of Engineers. He was an active-duty Officer and served in the Korean War. He always claimed his Army service to be his greatest career achievement and work experience.

Upon receiving his honorable discharge from serving in the Korean War, Don joined Hallmark Cards, Inc. He climbed the corporate ladder moving his family from Lansing, MI to Louisville, KY to South Bend, IN and then to Naperville, IL in 1968. His final responsibility after 20+ years with Hallmark was as General Sales Manager for a 15-state area headquartered in Oak Brook, IL. Subsequent to Hallmark, Don was a Vice President of Sales & Marketing for a decorative accessory company for 11 years and he then entered the residential real estate business in Naperville. During his 25+ year real estate career, he became a Managing Broker, formed Team Hagmeyer with his son Rich and helped numerous families buy and sell residential real estate. He so enjoyed the real estate business.

Don lived in the Cress Creek community and was a founding member of the Cress Creek Homeowners Association and served as President from 1971-1973. He continued as a Board member for an additional 37 years and participated in numerous Mayoral and City Council campaigns.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Patricia (nee Ingram), he took tremendous pride in his sons, Richard (Lisa), Thomas (Suzanne), grandchildren, Lindsey (Matthew) Andrews, Christina, Alex (Marissa) and Katy Hagmeyer, great-grandchildren, Hazel, Isla, Sophia and his amazing sister, Mary Ann Guenzler (the late Robert). Don also loved his nieces, nephew, and their families.

He attended Saint Timothy Lutheran Church and the Compass Church in Naperville and was a 50+ year member of Cress Creek Country Club. Don was a PROUD AMERICAN who loved God, his family, his friends and all the opportunities he was presented.

Don was always engaging whenever we had a chance to have diner and a drink. He had a great sense of humor and above all was interested in what was going on with your life. We always enjoyed our visits with Don and Pat. He will be missed by many but always remembered. Rest In Peace.
