Peter Carroll Obituary

Peter A. Carroll, age 86, a longtime resident of Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born on January 17, 1936, in Detroit, MI.

Peter is survived by his loving children, Cheri (Jim) Crockett, Peter (Stacy) Carroll and Patti (Al) Gustafson, all of Naperville, IL; his cherished grandchildren, Kelly, Meghan, Allyson, Danielle, Shannon, Briana, Ian, and Bridget; great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Michael, Ethan, Austin, Cameron, and Olivia Janet.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Carroll (nee McLeod) and his awesome grandson, Michael Gustafson.

Peter was raised in the Herman Gardens Housing Projects in Detroit, and he put himself through school. Peter earned his bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI, becoming the first member of his family to graduate college. He enjoyed a highly successful 40-year career with CNA Insurance and retired as a Senior Vice President. He was a mentor to many and enjoyed lifelong friendships with CNA colleagues.

Peter was a resident of Naperville, IL from 1970 until 1998, and then retired to Gull Lake, MI where he lived out his dream by having both a lake and golf course basically in his back yard. Peter was a member of the Gull Lake Country Club where he enjoyed golfing into his 80's, but never shot in the 80's! His favorite things in life were his family, his Detroit Tigers, boating, dancing, and sharing a cocktail with friends. He was a simple, kind, generous man with a profound sense of humor.

The family suggests in the spirit of Pete's life that funeral attire be your favorite sport's team or golf shirt. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 18, 2022, 9:00 - 11:00 AM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

A celebration of Peter's life will follow Thursday, 11:00 AM in the funeral home.

Interment: SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.
