Rogelio Alfredo Villageliu Sosa

Rogelio Alfredo Villageliu Sosa, 89 years old, died peacefully in his sleep on April 21, 2008, in Iowa City. Until his retirement in 1990, he was a faculty member of the Spanish and Portuguese Department of the University of Iowa, where he had studied for his PhD.

Dr. Villageliu was born in Havana, Cuba on January 8, 1919. At the University of Havana, he completed the course of study for a doctorate in law and a doctorate in Political, Economic, and Social Studies. He obtained his law degree in 1940, worked as a prosecutor and later established his own law firm

In 1945, he also became a professor of Political Economy at the Jose B. Aleman College of Havana. In 1962, he became a political exile in the United States, as a result of the

communist takeover of Cuba.

He leaves behind his wife, Judit Villageliu (nee Mejia), a

retired lawyer and also a retired member of the University of Iowa faculty. He also leaves behind two sons, Gustavo Daniel Villageliu, a lawyer, who lives in Falls Church, Virginia, and who is married to Susan Mary Villageliu, JD-LPT (nee Leinen) and Rogelio Alfredo Villageliu, III, also a lawyer, who lives in Naperville, Illinois, and is married to Maureen Ann Villageliu, M.D. (nee Norton), a Naperville pediatrician. Dr. Rogelio Villageliu had five grandchildren, Paul Daniel Villageliu, Carmen Anne Villageliu, Julia Terese Villageliu, Paul Daniel Villageliu, Daniel Nicholas Villageliu, and Andrew Eric Villageliu.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008, 10: 30 a.m. at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville. Interment private. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Info: 630 355 0264. www.beidelmankunschfh.com
