Stephen Samp Obituary

Stephen Samp, 56, of Lisle, Illinois passed away on Saturday May 29, 2021 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on June 27, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joan (née Lakowske) and Anthony Samp. Steve is survived by his beloved wife of almost 30 years, Donna (née Kliver) Samp. Loving father to Michael (fiancé Taylor Downs) Samp, Christopher Samp, and Renée Samp (fiancé Luke Piazza). Dear brother of Brother Bernard C.F.C., Julia (Kevin) Arp, Paul, Frank (Alicia), Lenard, Eva, and Tim Samp. Stephen is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Rose Mary Kliver, and many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Steve grew up in Chicago and attended De La Salle High School class of 1982, where he enjoyed managing the basketball team and continued to work the scorer's table for the next decade after he graduated. He spent his childhood summers fishing, swimming, and playing softball at the Oriole Camp Club on Lake Elizabeth in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. There, he made many lifelong friends and later shared those experiences with his wife and children. After high school he went on to attend UIC where he earned his bachelor's degree in Math and Computer Science in 1986 and worked as a software engineer for over 30 years until his retirement in 2018. Steve met the love of his life, Donna, at an AT&T Happy Hour in 1990. That happy hour led to 30 years of marriage, 3 kids, and many more happy hours. They were married at St. Daniel the Prophet in Chicago in 1991 and enjoyed raising their children in Lisle. Those years were filled with family road trips all across the country, several visits to Disneyworld, and thousands of sports games. Steve was a man of faith, family, friends and a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, Cubs, and all of his children's sporting teams. Nothing was more important to him then his family. He enjoyed spending time walking the paths of Green Trails and the Morton Arboretum with his wife and he spent as much time as he could fishing with his friends. In Steve's opinion he was not the greatest fisherman, but in the eyes of his family and friends, he was the best. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home and Cremation Services 44 South Mill, Naperville IL 60540. The Mass will be on Friday, June 4 at 11am at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church 1450 Green Trails Dr, Naperville, IL 60540. For more information, please call 630-355-0213.
