Doris Edna Swesey
Naples, FL
Doris Edna Swesey died peacefully on December 2, 2013 at Imperial Health Care surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed 89 years of a full and wonderful life. She was born in Cleveland, OH in 1924 to Florence Leona Hutchins and Ora Hutchins. She was then adopted at the age of eight by Emma M. Schindler and Fred G. Schindler.
Doris is survived by all of her four children, Donald Hattery, Kathleen Greenwell, Caroline DeVries, and John Hofacre. There are six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two greatgreat-grandchildren.
Family and friends were Doris's delight and passion.
She was a 'road scholar,' an artist, and a poet even having some of her poetry published.
She married the love of her life, Harold Swesey. When their home started to become an empty nest she and Harold started working with the Catholic Florida Service Bureau as forster parents. They worked always as a team and took in the most medical ill children in Collier County. They then became house parents of Youth Haven. There, they where known to hundreds of children over the years as Mom and Dad SQUEEZEME.
There will be a private family service at the home of her daughter.
In lieu of flowers, Doris would want donations made in any form to a homeless child.

Doris was such a special lady. We absolutely loved spending our once a month Saturdays with her. Spending time together we were never at a loss for words. She will be missed by a lot of people who made her life a special one. My sympathy to all of Doris's family

Doris was a dear friend of mine and will be missed very much. We spent many hours together among friends creating hand stamped cards while sharing stories about our lives. Doris made us smile with her colorful wit and charm! Doris always had a soft spot for the little children and her life was richly blessed by them. I, too, have been blessed by the pleasure of calling Doris my friend. Wishing you a peaceful journey from this earth to God's loving arms!
