Evert VanderStarre 1926-2014
Grand Rapids, MI, and Naples, FL
Evert VanderStarre was released from the pain of cancer and into God's glory on October 7, 2014. He was 88 years old. Born in Grand Rapids, MI, to Adrian and Jo hanna VanderStarre, Evert proudly served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Grand Rapids Christian High School and Calvin College, earned his Bachelor's degree and M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, and operated Van's Store Equipment Company in G.R. until his retirement to Naples, FL, in 1998.
Beloved husband for 56 years to Susanne O'Neal VanderStarre of Naples, FL. Dear Dad to Janna and John VanderWoude of Finksburg, MD, Paul VanderStarre and Carol DeBoer of Zeeland, MI, Adrian Starre of Portland, OR, and Marta VanderStarre of Naples, FL. Awesome grandpa to Julia Horn of Silverdale, WA, Nathan VanderWoude of Ithaca, NY, Kenton VanderWoude, and Laura and Rachel VanderStarre. Favorite oldest brother to Anne Braam, Connie and Duane Kuik, Adrian and Marge VanderStarre, Jo and Roger Poll, and Irma and Al Wychers, all of Grand Rapids. 23 adored and adoring nieces and nephews, and innumerable friends.
Faithful servant of his Lord, Evert was a longtime member of Oakdale Park and Princeton CRCs (Grand Rapids) and Vanderbilt Presbyterian (Naples), and a devoted volunteer for 18 years at Habitat for Humanity in Immokalee, FL. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his integrity, faithfulness, and teasing charm.
Memorial services will be held at Princeton on Saturday, November 1st, and at Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church Naples, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29th.

It has been awhile since I read his obit, but what struck me this time, and something I hope will be in mine, is about his, "teasing charm", for he truly will be remembered for that and his constant good humor.

Ev was a wonderful guy and will be greatly missed on Wednesdays in Immokalee. We loved him and his pearls of wisdom such as "If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much"!! I extend my heartfelt condolences to Suzanne and the entire family.
