Frederick L. Sullivan, Jr. Naples, FL
Frederick L. Sullivan, Jr., 87, of Naples, FL, passed away on April 4, 2013 sur rounded by his loving family. Born in Brockton, MA, he graduated from Monsignor Coyle High School in 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served four years in the South Pacific. In September of 1947, he enrolled at Boston College. He was recalled to duty with the U.S. Navy in September of 1950 for the Korean War. Upon release in 1951, he resumed his college education and graduated in 1953. The next year, he began what turned out to be a 28 year career with the Bell System, serving in numerous management positions with AT&T and the New England Telephone Company.
After retiring in 1982, he and his wife, Mary, moved to Florida in 1985. He became President of the Coquina Sands Homeowners Association, and was President of the Presidents' Council of Greater Naples.
An active participant in the Citizens to Preserve Naples Bay, he was elected to the Naples City Council in 1990. Following the 1992 Mayoral election, he was elected as Vice Mayor. In 1994, he was re-elected to a second term on City Council. In September of 1996, he was elected President of the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Florida League of Cities.
He was a member of St. Ann's Parish, the Knights of Columbus, Save the Bays Association, the Boston College Club of Southwest Florida, and the Coquina Sands Association.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary E. Sullivan; as well as three sons; three daughters; and 15 grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Ann's Parish on Monday April 29, 2013 at 10:30 a.m.
