Harold A. "H" Rasmussen Jr., 64, of Naples, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born June 11, 1948 in San Francisco, CA, the son of Beulah G. (née Livingston) and Harold A. Rasmussen, Sr. He graduated with a B.A. in anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and had a distinguished 30 year career with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Harold had multiple domestic and international assignments with CDC's STD and HIV prevention programs. He was assigned to health departments in New York City, St. Louis, Chicago, San Francisco, and the State of California and to the national program office in Atlanta. His international work included assignments as Deputy Director for CDC offices in Guyana, Trinidad, Thailand, and Uganda. Throughout his CDC career, Harold developed many long-term friendships and was recognized for his outstanding management and public health knowledge. He inspired many to follow his example of always keeping in mind the humanity and dignity of those they served. He retired from CDC and moved to Naples, FL in 2007.

Harold became a muchloved and well-respected and magnanimous leader in the recovery community of Naples. He never refused the opportunity to assist at local organizations such as the David Lawrence Center, NCH, St. Matthew's House, The Willough and Hazelden.

Harold is survived by many close friends who will forever remember him fondly.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the 24 Hour Club of Naples, 1509 Pine Ridge Road.

He will be buried with his parents at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA.
