Mr. Martoccia was a wonderful teacher....If you did not learn in his class, it was because you did not want to learn. A class act, with the patience to convey information simply and interestingly. I have carried his philosophies and teachings with me, throughout my life.
Rest in peace Mr. Martoccia, I tell people about you all the time, and always will.

I was late in hearing of his passing, but want to extend my condolences to the surviving family members of this great man. Mr Martoccia gave me the start and ambition of what would become a lifelong passion for cooking and lead to a career. Paul hired me in my junior year at South high to work for The Ohio City Tavern and that set the tone for the rest of my life.I made it a point to stop and see him at the Elegant Hog Downtown, while home from school in 1981 to thank him for the great opportunity he had afforded me. I regret my not keeping in tough all these years. God speed and rest in peace Mr. Matoccia!

Dear Martoccia Family,
Mr. Martoccia and Ms. Pivcevich were my most favorite teachers at South High (Class of 1965). They both exemplified the best of their profession. Mr. Martoccia not only taught Social Studies and made it interesting but he shared life lessons - he held your interest in class. He was kind, caring, passionate and genuine - and he chose the same kind of person as his soul-mate and wife.
There is an old Indian saying: "When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a manner that when you die the world cries and you rejoice." While Mr. Martoccia enters the gates of Heaven, those of us whose lives he touched grieve over the passing of a truly special person.
May your memories comfort you at this time of profound loss.
To have students remember Mr. Martoccia from over 50 years ago just shows what an impact he made on the kids he taught and coached. Our joys are greater and our lives are fuller because we shared his moment.
May your memories comfort you at this time of profound loss. God bless you all.
With deepest sympathy,
Millie Powell

I was a student of Mr. Martoccia's at South High in the early 60s. While I'm sad to read of his passing, I was happy to learn of the eclectic and accomplished life he lead outside the classroom. Godspeed paisano!

Dear Martoccia Family,
Mr. Martoccia and Ms. Pivcevich were my most favorite teachers at South High (class of 1965). They represented the best of the teaching profession. When I ran into Mr. Martoccia at the Elegant Hog one day, I realized what a gifted entrepreneur he was, along with his other talents.
There is an old Indian saying: "When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a manner that when you die the world cries and you rejoice." Today there are so many of us who join his family and friends in grieving the passing of this amazing man who touched so many lives. Our joys are greater and our lives are fuller because we shared his moment.
Mr. Martoccia not only taught but he shared life lessons with those of us fortunate enough to have him as a teacher or coach. He was kind, honest, genuine, caring and passionate and he chose as his soul mate and wife that same kind of person.
May God's love provide you peace and may your friends and family and memories provide you comfort at this time of profound loss.
God bless you all.
My deepest sympathy,

I had Mr. Martoccia at South High (Class of '69) as a Sociology teacher. There are still specific lessons I remember that he taught us. He also was the only teacher who talked to us about the Vietnam War which was looming ahead of us after graduation. I'll always remember his calling me "bird" because of a yellow and black dress I wore! He was a good teacher who made learning fun.
