Richard Laughlin Obituary

Richard F Laughlin

Bonita Springs, FL

Richard F. Laughlin, age 69, of Bonita Springs, Florida passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015.

Richard was born on May 14, 1946 in Newburgh, NY. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and received his Bachelor's from NEW YORK REGENTS, and Master's Degrees from Norfolk State University.

When Richard was 17, against his mother's wishes, he joined the United States Navy. Despite his mother's initial concerns, Richard spent 30 successful years as a Navy man and eventually retired attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. He never really left the Navy though and continued his lifetime service as a Government Contractor. Richard loved the ocean and even after retirement from the Navy, spent his free time cruising around the world with his wife Linda. He was always actively involved in his community, coaching basketball for his daughters, volunteering with the juvenile court, and serving in the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 96. Richard was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. His happiest times were those spent with his grandchildren. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Laughlin and Frances Schufa Laughlin.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; two children, Angela and Kristy and their husbands Trey Brown, and Jason Dixon respectively; four grandchildren, Kyle, Kayla, Oliver and Declan; a sister, Kathy Laughlin; a brother Lance Laughlin; and many more relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trial South, Bonita Springs, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM, Saturday, October 3, 2015 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28290 Beaumont Road, Bonita Springs, FL.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Relay For Life - Bonita Springs/Estero.

Lance, I have very fond memories of your brother while we were both at St. Mary's. I often wondered where life's journey had taken Richie. It is comforting to know that he lived such a rewarding life.
