Robert Stakich Obituary

Robert D. "Bob" Stakich Marco Island, FL

Robert D. "Bob" Stakich, 88, of Marco Island, FL, died peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 28, 2009. He was born December 1, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late Daniel and Anna Stakich and was very proud of his Croatian heritage. Bob served as a captain in the Fighting 69th Infantry Division in WW II, earning a Bronze Star in addition to other medals. He was involved in the construction and land development business in Cleveland before moving to Marco Island in 1980.

Bob loved Marco Island and its people. He not only continued to work as a real estate developer, but also dedicated his time and effort to his church and was a board member of many community organizations including the Greater Marco YMCA. Bob remained magnificently involved in life. He maintained a feisty and youthful spirit of optimism by looking out for the best in people and hoping for the best outcome in many endeavors, including poker!

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Terry (Smolinski); and his son, Brian; as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Lee Stakich.

He is survived by his daughter, Robin Duncan; his grandchildren, Danielle Stakich Montis and Kenny and Bobby Wilber; his great-grandson, Ashton Michael Mulligan; and his two nieces, Barbara (Don) Black and Susan (Bert, deceased) Huffman. He will be missed by many other family members, friends and the "Posse."

A memorial service will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8th at San Marco Catholic Church, located on San Marco Road on Marco Island.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Bob to the Greater Marco YMCA, P.O. Box 2529, Marco Island, FL 34146 and/or San Marco Catholic Church C.F.A., 851 San Marco Road, Marco Island, FL 34145.

Dear Robin, It is with great sorrow and respect that I read of your dad's passing. It was so many years ago that your mom and dad came into my life. 1983, to be exact! What an exciting year for me! Soon Char, your mom and I opened our Rodier shop in Naples. You and Brian were just teens. Your mom and dad helped me believe that I could do whatever I set my mind to. It has carried me through to this day! I want you to know what they meant to me and to Don. I think of them often and will always be grateful that I was fortunate enough to have known them. I have missed your mom and am saddened to read of your dad's passing. My best to you and your family. Kathy

Robin, It has been many years since your mom, Char and I opened our Naples Rodier shop. You and Brian were teens. I want you to know how much your mom and dad meant to Don and I. I find it hard to believe they both are gone and Brian, too. Your parents were terrific people and I will never forget them. Both Don and I have very fond memories of them and they personally gave me the belief that I could succeed in the business world with what ever I could dream of doing. I miss them and will remember them always. Kathy

Many memories of Cleveland (CAC) and Marco. He will be missed by many but will be remembered for his many hours devoted to both communities
