Robert E. Wright Sr.

Naples/Ocala - Robert E. Wright Sr., 95, of Naples and Ocala, passed away on Feb. 11, 2020 surrounded by his family.

Born in rural Indiana, he emerged from the Dust Bowl and Great Depression a man and went East to start his family. He met his bride, Madeline T Wright, of Staten Island, N.Y. And answered his call to serve in WWII. Landed in England and marched across France and Germany, disarmed bombs from under bridges, looked the Witch of Buchenwald in the eye and marched with General Patton's 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Bronze Star recipient.

Back stateside, he raised a family of 6 children and saw them all through successful and fruitful lives. Cancer took his first love way too soon but he found love again.

Marrying Florence in 1983. Together they had a combined family of 10 children, 26 Grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. He danced and sang and lead an exemplary life that would be a tough act to follow. His second love was taken by the ravage of time and dementia. His strong faith and love of family helped him through.

On Feb. 11, he decided he had done enough here, sang enough, danced enough steps. For 96 years, he crooned his way into so many hearts with a presence that was Undeniable. The greatest generation has lost another great hero.

A memorial service will be held on March 15, 2020 (his 96th birthday) at 4pm at First Baptist Church, Orange Blossom Dr, Naples. Interment for both Robert and Florence will be on March 16, 2020 at 2pm at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
