Wanda June SickleNichols Naples, FL
Wanda June SickleNichols, passed away peacefully at Frances Georgeson House, Hospice of Naples, on July 6, 2011.
Born May 18th, 1924 in Alliance, OH to George A. Sickle and Nora Brannan Sickle, she was the youngest of eight brothers and sisters. She lived in Homestead, graduating in 1941 from Redlands High School. She moved to Everglades City with her Husband, Jesse Ivan (Speck) Hoffman, and worked for many years at the Rod and Gun Club, and for the Collier Companies. She was a Clerk in A. P. Ayers Tax Collectors Office in Everglades until the Collier County Court House moved to Naples following Hurricane Donna in 1960. After many years in the Court House, she started work at Lawyers Abstract Service on Airport Road in Naples, until she finally retired.
Survived by her brother, Harold Sickle and his wife, Mary of Greensboro, NC; and their children and families; her children, Steve Thomas and Nora Castello of Naples; four grandchildren, Lorrie, Garrett, Waylon and Michael; and four great grandchildren. Wanda was preceded in passing by her son, Ivan Hoffman, of Naples. Also surviving, are many cousins, nieces and nephews, new friends and old friends, and extended families.
There are so many who have come to know her over the years who will remember her good humor and happy attitude, and will always call her a dear friend who had "gold inside" of her heart and spirit.
A private memorial celebration of Remembrance of Wanda, to honor her life, with her family and friends, is to be planned at a later date.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Avow Hospice, animal shelters and rescues, or other charities of your choice.

For the short period of Wanda's live we were blessed with knowing her it was always such a pleasure and brought smiles to our faces to see her come in to enjoy the music and a beer or two!
We love you all!

Nora and Steve, Your mother touched many people in her life with her wisdom, sense of humor and contagious laugh. She was always kind and willing to offer gentle advice to those close to her (myself included). She was so fortunate to have the two of you take such loving care of her these last few years. Wanda will always be in my heart. Love, Betty

Wanda, with the infectious laugh, the big smile and warm hug -- what a girl!!
Our times with Wanda, over the years, were too few but always special. Her sunny nature and cute sense of humor were delightful. She was a blessing but blessed, as well, to have a dear family and such loving care from Nora and Steve. We believe that she is, now, with many of her loved ones who have gone on ahead.

God bless you Wanda. I know that you are in a better place, but your family and friends miss you so.
Although you were soft spoken, you will always be my idea of a “good old broad”. I enjoyed your company; I loved your stories of Everglades City and especially of Homestead, because we graduated from the same high school!
I will never forget the time we all went to the Sea Food Fest and had lunch at the Rod and Gun Club. You showed us a fifty (or so) year old post card, which you had posed for because you worked there at the time. You were standing at the front desk, looking gorgeous, as ever. You were so proud of that post card. It was a lovely photo and the best lunch ever!
Love to you Wanda, Nora and family.

Mom has begun to dance and sing in much brighter place, she is only beginning her next journey. We will miss her, but feel certain she is going to be making new friends and finding old friends, who will travel with her on an exciting new path.

NoraD and Steve, what can I say. What a beautiful mother you two had. She was my friend and mentor for over 30 years and I cherish the times that we were together. She was a tough old bird and gentle as a kitten all in one small package. But as Wanda would tell me "Never let your head hang down, never give up and sit down and grieve, find another way" I love ya Wanda.
Salute,
Dar
