A memorial service to celebrate the life of William Laimbeer has been scheduled for Saturday, October 20th at 10:30 am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Marco Island, Florida.
William Laimbeer Sr., of Marco Island, FL, died peacefully at his home on April 28, 2018. He was 83 years old. Bill, as he was known, was born November 5, 1934 in Columbus, OH to George and Doris Laimbeer and grew up in southern England. In 1956 he married Joan Waldon and they moved to Hawaii when Bill was stationed at the Marine Corps base in Kaneohe. Bill and Joan left Hawaii in 1957 and moved to Cambridge where Bill attended Harvard and their first child was born.
In 1959 Bill began a long and distinguished career with Owens-Illinois, Inc., ending as a Board Member and Executive Vice President in 1987 when it was purchased by KKR and the Forrest Products Division was sold to Great Northern Nekoosa.
Bill and Joan permanently retired to Marco Island, Florida in 1998 where he began to devote his free time to philanthropy. He was actively involved in numerous charities that focused on children and education. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and participated in many of their charitable endeavors.
Bill is survived by Joan, his wife of 63 years; his brother Morgan; his son William Jr. and wife Chris; daughter Lee; daughter Susan and her husband Rich Ford; four grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews.

I worked for the same firm as Mr. Laimbeer and on the same floor as Executive Secretary to first, Floyd Canter then Jerome Bohland. My deceased husband, Lawrence Bischoff, worked under Mr. Laimbeer for some time. Mr. Laimbeer was an executive who treated those under him with much dignity and friendliness. He was thought so highly by myself and husband. We moved to Naples 31 years ago, but I did not realize that Mr. Laimbeer lived so close. So sorry to hear of his passing and hope the fond memories of him will help his wonderful family do well with his death.
