Charles "Rodney" Johnson, age 78, of Callahan, Florida passed away March 17, 2025.
He was born April 22, 1946, in Jacksonville, Florida to Richard and Ruth Johnson. Rodney was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He served two tours in Vietnam, for which he received numerous commendations. Rodney was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas after his return from the war.
After his discharge from the Army, Rodney started a masonry company and built many structures around North Florida. Rodney lived In Jacksonville most of his life. He moved to Callahan in 2024 to be closer to relatives after his wife, Ann, passed away.
Rodney loved camping, fishing and spending time with loved ones. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his sense of humor, his appreciation of a good meal and his cheerful smile.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Johnson and Ruth Tanner; brother, Greg Johnson; and son, Joseph Johnson.
Rodney leaves behind his son, Charles Johnson, Jr. (Carol); sister, Sharon Harris (Don); brother, Monty Johnson; grandsons, Charles Johnson, III (Haley) and Danny Johnson; great-grandchildren, Summer, Joseph, Austin, Dillon, Lacy, Isabella, Preston and Charles Rodney Johnson, IV; former daughter-in-law, Beth Johnson (Paul); and many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

A celebration of Rodney's life will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 10:45 a.m. at Nassau Funeral Home with Pastor Dwight Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Community Hospice of North Florida in Rodney's honor.
