Dorcas Rodriguez Obituary
Dorcas Crawford Rodriguez, a New Canaan native and long time resident, died on Wednesday, Oct 15, at the home of her sister, Catherine Crawford Pike, and her brother-in-law, William E Pike of New Canaan Dorcas was born in New York City on Oct 5, 1935, the daughter of Mr and Mrs William R Crawford, Jr
After her childhood in New Canaan, she attended the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass, from which she graduated in 1953 In 1957, Dorcas graduated from Stanford University cum laude with her bachelor's degree in economics, and then completed her education at the Harvard Business School where she received a master's degree in 1958
Dorcas Crawford's business career included work at various financial firms in New York and at General Electric Credit Corp In 1989, she became Chairman and CEO of Somat Corp of Coatsville, Pa, a position she held until the sale of the company to the Hobart Co in 1996 For many years she served as Treasurer of the Sedgeley Club, an historic women's club on Boathouse Row in Philadelphia
In retirement, Dorcas became a master in decorative arts, particularly painting and finishing furniture, glasswork, and murals, designing decoupage and needlework and working with fabrics Her creative gifts, shared over the years, are family treasures An avid athlete, and as a member of the Hershey's Mill Golf Club and past member of the Country Club of New Canaan, she was always an enthusiastic golfer and tennis player She was also a member of the Suburban Garden Club from the mainline in Philadelphia
Dorcas lived in West Chester, Pa, and was married in 2012 to David E Rodriguez who, with his extended family of four generations, survive her Her daughter, Dorcas Ann Casey predeceased her in 2008 She is also survived by her sisters, Catherine Crawford Pike of New Canaan and Caroline Crawford Maryan of Williamsburg, Va, and a brother, William R Crawford III, of Long Beach, Calif, as well as, eight nieces and nephews and a step-daughter, Lisa Casey Rakaseder A private family service and interment at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan is planned
