Mike Joyce Obituary

Mike Joyce III
John Michael Joyce III, a resident of New Canaan, CT, and known to all as "Mike," passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, surrounded by his family. He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday on August 18th. Mike was the beloved husband of Geraldine Dwyer Joyce, "Ger," sharing a loving marriage of 62 years before her passing in 2018. Mike was a devoted father to his five children: Catherine Joyce Wooters (Laurence S. Wooters) of New Canaan, CT; John Michael Joyce IV (Clare Reynolds Joyce, deceased) of Northfield, IL; Kevin P. Joyce (Susan Smith Joyce) of Ridgefield, CT; Dennis P. Joyce (Pamela Banks Joyce) of San Rafael, CA; and Timothy M. Joyce (Margaret Concannon Joyce) of Wilton, CT. Mike's legacy also lives on through his 18 cherished grandchildren-Ryan, Mark, Meaghan, Catherine, J.P., Suzanne, Julie, Jack, Bridget, Kate, Conor, Sandra, Maggie, Tommy, Colin, Dennis, Chris, and Mary-and 18 great-grandchildren-Brendan, Aedan, Anna, Lucy, Claire, Caitlin, Charlotte, Molly, Rowan, Naomi, Brooks, Hank, Meredith, Jack, Maeve, Penny, Cora, and John. Born in St. Louis, MO, in 1935 to John M. Joyce, Jr., and Catherine Peet Joyce, Mike was the eldest of seven children. His brother predeceased him, Thomas P. Joyce (Mary McConville Joyce, deceased), and five siblings survive him: Patricia Figge (John K. Figge, deceased); Mary McCooey (Robert H. McCooey, deceased); Bonnie Grace (Thomas G. Grace); Timothy J. Joyce (Nancy DiFederico Joyce); and Cashie Egan (Thomas F. Egan). Mike and Ger raised their family in New Rochelle, NY, where Mike was a dedicated pillar of the community, serving as a trustee for Iona University, New Rochelle Hospital, and the National Bank of Westchester. His dedication to education continued through his service as a trustee of Elizabeth Seton College and as a member of the Board of Directors at Georgetown University. As former chairman of Joyce Beverages, Inc.-New York and Washington, D.C., Mike continued the family legacy of the soft drink bottling company founded by his grandfather, John M. Joyce, in 1935. The company operated in seven states with a strong presence in Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. Following his retirement, Mike and Ger spent twenty years enjoying life in Sea Island, GA, and Stratton, VT. They eventually moved to New Canaan in 2006 to be closer to their children. Mike was a passionate sports fan and an avid golfer, enjoying the greens at Westchester Country Club, Ekwanok Country Club, and Ocean Forest Golf Club. He was also a member of the US Seniors Golf Association. In New Canaan, he was a familiar figure on his daily walks to the YMCA. Mike loved the town and its residents. His faith brought him great comfort, and he was a dedicated parishioner of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where he was especially welcomed at the 7 a.m. weekly Mass after Ger's passing.
