JAMES ALTEMUS Obituary

James Lee Altemus, Sr., 83, of Tunkhannock passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2024 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Natitus) Altemus.

Born on Oct. 28, 1940 in Caverton, he is the son of the late Almon and Katherine (Cyphers) Altemus.

He was a 1958 graduate of Dallas High School. He furthered his studies at Williamsport Tech, where he received a degree in electronics.

James served his country in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. His professional journey began at Penelec, where he dedicated 32 years of service, ultimately retiring as an Electrical Equipment Construction Supervisor.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed deer hunting. His love for horses and mules was well-known among his friends and family, and he took great pleasure in horse riding.

He was a member of the Tunkhannock Moose Lodge and served as a Past Master for the Tunkhannock Masons. For over 50 years, he was a lifelong member of the American Legion Dennis Strong Post 457, actively contributing to the organization and its efforts.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Cherie Altemus; son, James Altemus, Jr. and wife Tammy; brother, Carl Altemus, Sr. and wife Kathy; grandchildren: Christopher Milazzo, Lauren Milazzo, Justin Prevost (Amity Lyles), Travis Prevost (Jan), Ally Prevost, Brandi Engisch, Lucas Raymond (Brit); great-grandchildren: Charolette and Evelyn Prevost, Caden, Talon, and Adrian Engisch, Walker Raymond, Dom and Gia Milazzo, David and Annaleigh Alvear; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by daughter, Bonnie Prevost; son-in-law, Roy Prevost; great-grandson, Jonathan Prevost; sister, Carol Waters; and nephew, Carl Altemus, Jr.

Funeral services will be held privately. Interment will be held in Prevost Cemetery, Tunkhannock.

Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga Street, Tunkhannock.
