Joan M. Otis, 56, of Lawton, passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 6, 2021, at the Regional Hospital of Scranton with her loving family at her side.
Joan was born on June 22, 1964, in Long Branch, N.J., the daughter of Joan Marie Kirkpatrick Hemenway and the late Floyd E. Hemenway (d. 1995).
Joan married Randy S. Otis on Sept. 1, 1990, and together they raised two children.
She enjoyed cooking and doing 'DIY' crafts. She loved her feline best friend, Whiskers, as well as her other beloved four-legged friends on the funny farm and would often play games on her iPad with her cat. She took great pleasure in helping her daughter plan her wedding and loved to spend time with all of her family.
She was employed as an income maintenance case worker with the Wyoming County Assistance office for 32 years before retiring on Feb. 27.
Joan is survived by her husband, Randy Otis; her children: Vanessa Henry and her husband, Justin, of Carbondale, and Dakota Otis of Lawton; her mother, Joan Marie Hemenway of Lawton; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Jacob George 'J.F.K.' Hemenway and Floyd Hemenway, Jr.
A celebration of life for Joan will be held on Tuesday, June 22, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Hayloft Tavern, 10774 PA-267, Lawton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joan's name to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or on its website, www.stjude.org.
