Walter E. Haussler Jr., 80, of Dalton, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at Geisinger CMC Hospital in Scranton after a brief illness.
Born in Dalton, he is the son of the late Walter and Gladys (Phillips) Haussler.
Walter was a 1961 graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School where he excelled in sports and was captain of both the basketball and baseball teams.
Upon graduation he entered the United States Navy for which he served proudly. He was honorably discharged as Chief Petty Officer.
After returning home, he was employed by PennDOT. In 1970 he was hired by Wes Herron at Nicholson Lumber where he was a devoted employee until his retirement in 2005.
Walter was a lifelong member of the Dalton Fire Company in which he served many offices. He was also a lifelong member of the Dalton United Methodist Church.
Walter was a hardworking man with a hilarious sense of humor. Everyone enjoyed talking with Walt at the 'Yard.' He was a loving and generous son, brother, uncle, and friend.
He was predeceased by his parents; older brother, William Haussler; and nephew, Mark Haussler.
Walter is survived by his loving sister, Linda (William) Herron; sister-in-law, Ruth Haussler; nieces, Beth (David), Daub and Kim (Tim) Stiteler; nephew, Bruce (Michelle) Herron; great nephew, Evan (Brittany) Herron; great nieces, Lindsay and Rachel Daub, Kari Stiteler, and Emily Herron; and great great niece, Lilah Herron.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Dalton Fire Company.
