Helen Mae Starr

NEWARK: A funeral service for Helen Mae Starr, 88, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.

Helen passed away July 14, 2016, at Flint Ridge Nursing and rehabilitations Center. She was born April 21, 1928, in Newark, to the late Walter Oscar and Ruby Mae (Smith) Ponser.

Helen retired from the Newark Public School System. She was an avid collector of various bells, and sold Avon for over 25 years. Helen was a member of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughters, Charlamae Belcher and Roberta Lee Wade both of Newark; grandchildren, Rhonda Lynn (David) Stockdale of Newark and Jason Martin (Lori) Settlemoir of Cream Ridge, NJ, and great-grandchildren, Amanda (Aaron) Caldwell of Westerville, Aaron Huff of Newark, Abi Huff of Newark, Alex Huff of Newark, Jeffrey Settelmoir and Travis Settlemoir both of Cream Ridge, NJ, Maegan Kaderka of Frisco, TX, and great-great-grandson, Judah Caldwell of Westerville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kenneth Starr; brother, Warren Gene Ponser, and son-in-law, Thomas Belcher.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Flint Ridge and Generation Hospice.

Bobbie and Family,

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Helen. We were their neighbors on Cedarcrest Avenue and what a joy they were. They were more than just neighbors, they were our friends also. They so loved their family and were so proud of their family. Rest in heaven Helen.
