Jo was born in Piketon, Ohio on March 18, 1916 to the late Elmer Carrell and Dora (Rapp) Carrell in. She passed away at her residence on March 26, 2021, while surrounded by her loving family.

Jo was a mother and grandmother to 200 plus children and grandchildren. She knew who they all were and loved each and every one very much. The tradition of gathering and celebrating on Christmas Eve at her tiny house was always a special time for the entire family. She loved a good rummage or yard sale and enjoyed selling at flea markets for many years. She was delighted by a fun game of Bingo and thrilled by the chance to win on a lottery scratch off. To know her was to love her and she brought so much joy to everyone she met. Her friends and neighbors around the Lake meant a lot to her. She was the pillar of the family and she will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include her children, Donna Dennison, Frances Kennison, Karen (Robert) Cullen, William (Kay) Courts and Jack Courts; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Courts in 1969; daughter, Patricia Courts; sons, Russell Courts Jr., Joseph Courts, Gerald Courts, Larry Courts and James "Butch" Courts, who passed away the same day as Jo; granddaughter, Connie Games; grandsons, Jimmy Courts and Jessie Courts; and 13 brothers and sisters.
