Neil E. Ashbrook

JOHNSTOWN: Neil E. Ashbrook, 80, of Johnstown, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Funeral service will be 10 AM on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Church of the Ascension, 555 S. Main St., Johnstown, OH, with Father Reichert and Rev. Calvin Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Ashbrook was born July 16, 1932 in Johnstown, OH, to the late Hiram and Lela (Barcus) Ashbrook. He graduated from Johnstown High School. He was a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a rifle company combat medic with the 7th Division 31st Infantry. He was involved in battles for the Old Baldy and the Pork Chop Hill. He was a very active member of the Johnstown American Legion. He retired after 27 years with B&L Motor Freight, Newark, OH, also was a retired employee of the Harlem Township as road maintenance. He also was a farmer in the Johnstown community and could answer any and all questions about any kind of antique John Deere Tractor. He attended the Church of the Ascension.

Survived by wife of 61 years, Anita (Patton) Ashbrook of Johnstown; daughter, Monica (Steve) Thomson of Jacksonville, FL, daughter, Susan Ashbrook of Jacksonville, FL, son, Daniel Ashbrook of Jacksonville, FL, daughter, Margaret (Doug) Neil of Mt. Vernon, son, Thomas (Lorraine) Ashbrook of Heath; two sisters, Martha (Leroy) Thacker and Suzanne (Jack) Pitzer both of Johnstown; nine grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Ashbrook, son, Joseph Kelly Ashbrook; brother, Lee Ashbrook.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, OH.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions my be made in memory of Neil to the Johnstown American Legion Post #254, 44 S. Main St., Johnstown, Ohio 43031. An online memorial will be located at www.cksammons.com

Tommy, So sorry to hear about your dad, he was such a wonderful man, always smiling and although I hadn't seen him since grandpa's funeral he was always in my thoughts. He always love to give me a hard time (in a good way). He will be truly missed
