Thelma Gieseck Obituary

Thelma "Betty" Frye Gieseck

Alexandria, OH - Thelma "Betty" Frye Keith Gieseck was born in Saltville, Virginia the day stock market crashed on October 29th, 1929 to Milton and Dolly Frye. We like to say, "Grandma came into the world, and empires crumbled, and fortunes were lost". As the fourth child of fourteen, Betty was very close to all her siblings; and always remained close to them and their families. She stayed in Saltville and raised her oldest children there until she moved to Ohio and married James Gieseck. They settled in Alexandria, and she became active in the Alexandria United Methodist Church. She loved the church, and organized dinners and breakfasts, worked on vacation bible school, and helping her fellow parishioners. She loved visiting with family, spoiling children, traveling, shopping, and eating ice cream. Betty passed on Monday, November 23rd, peacefully in her sleep. She is preceded in death by son Baby Boy Keith, stepson Jeff Gieseck, son-in-law Dennis Provance, and daughter-in-law Alda Mae Keith. She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years James Gieseck, children, and step-children: Shirley Provance, Bill Keith, Sue (Bobby) Shepherd, Larry (Alicia) Keith, Susan (Mike) Gray, Keith (Theresa) Gieseck, and Jamie (Jimmy) Ashworth; as well as a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Alexandria United Methodist Church of Alexandria, Ohio. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a graveside service for immediate family, with larger memorials in Ohio and Virginia after restrictions are lifted.

She was a dear, sweet lady, a wonderful neighbor, babysitter and adopted grandmother to our two children Megan and Justin, who loved her very much. She will be sorely missed. May she rest in peace.
