Thomas Vogelmeier Obituary
NEWARK: A Funeral Mass for Thomas "Huck" Vogelmeier, 75, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Friday, June 20, 2014, with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Tom was "outta here" on Tuesday morning, June 17, 2014. He was born in Newark, Ohio on June 8, 1939 to the late Arthur and Anita (Frush) Vogelmeier.
Tom, a 1957 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, was a former firefighter with the city of Newark. He was also the owner and operator of Vogelmeier Harwood Floors for 50 years.
As a sport enthusiast, Tom was an avid fan all things Newark Catholic Greenwave, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and of course, The Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed golfing with friends and socializing at Huck's Bar. Above all, Tom cherished spending time with his grandchildren whom he adored with all of his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cathy (Luikart) Vogelmeier, of the home; his sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Dana Vogelmeier of Bloomington, Illinois, Barry and Leslie Vogelmeier of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Paul Chodak III of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; 6 grandchildren, Kyle "Kyster", Jordan, Riley, Bailey, Adam, and Tyler; 2 great-grandchildren, Blakely and Hilton; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Andrea Vogelmeier of Frazeysburg, and Jeff and Susan Vogelmeier of Troy; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn Kister of Newark, Diane Elwell (Jim Jones) of Hanover, Cissy and Jack Elam of Newark; his brother-in-law Roy Frazier of Newark; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sisters and brother-in-law, Mickey Frazier and Pat and Wendell Farley.
Friends and family may call from 4-8 P.M., Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.

No words to describe the love and friendship Ithat Tom brought to this world. We are grateful that we were able to know him and share in it. Tom was the epitome of kindness, friendship and fun! He had become like a father to Clay and I. I humbly lack the words to express how much we have come to love and cherish our Vogelmeier family. I have many great memories of Tom and the good times we had as kids growing up in the East End of Newark.

Prayers to this family for the loss of one of the nicest,& happiest men I have had the pleasure of knowing. He lived life to the fullest, loved with all his heart, & enjoyed his friends & family despite his health issues or discomfort, & did it with a zest most people wish they had. So sorry to learn about the passing of Huck. He was one of my hero's growing up in the East end and I very much enjoyed the 3 years that we lived together. We had a lot of good times together. "The Dog's" exploits are legendary and when I think back on them a smile always crosses my face. We have lost a great one and he will be missed by those who knew him.
