Charles Michael Fitzgerald

RIVER BEND - Mr. Charles Michael Fitzgerald, 66, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. A native of New York, Charlie retired from Verizon after 30 years of faithful service. He did missionary trips to Peru & Ecuador with HCJB radio to help with Christian radio broadcasts. After retirement, Charlie was known as the "Town Mayor" of River Bend, because he was very friendly and helpful with all his neighbors, and was always quick with a smile and a jingle. He was an active volunteer with the Tryon Palace, and was a driver for Carolina East, taking patients to and from their appointments. Charlie could be found working in his garden or fishing, when he wasn't taking one of his famous "trips to nowhere", usually a camp ground or a National Park, and on occasion, out-of-the-way eateries and shops. Charlie's love and joy of life touched many people's hearts. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends 6-8:00 PM, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Pollock-Best Funeral Home, and other times at the family home. Charlie is survived by his wife Noreen Fitzgerald, of River Bend; his sisters, Toni Fitzgerald, of Belleair Bluffs, FL; Helen Stallard, of CA; his brothers, Joseph Leo Fitzgerald, Jr, of NY; Thomas Fitzgerald, and wife Nancy, of Niskayuna, NY; and his twin Ed Fitzgerald, and wife Karine, of Mastic, NY. He also leaves behind many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
