Charles Yohn Obituary

NEW BERN | Charles W. Yohn, Jr., 89, passed away at home Saturday, March 12, 2016.
He is survived by a son, Charles W. Yohn III; two daughters, Lori Yohn Silverthorn (husband Ronnie Silverthorn) of New Bern, and Linda Knox Wilkinson (husband Doug Wilkinson) of Trent Woods; and one grandson, Douglas H. Wilkinson Jr. of Clayton, NC.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nettie Smith Knox Yohn.
Charles (also called Junior) was born in Bradley Junction, Florida, in April of 1926. He served in the Army of the United States in World War II, and was on active duty in Korea with the National Guard. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.
He moved to Greenville, NC, after WWII to pitch for the Greenville Greenies, a professional baseball team. Later he married, and began working for the NC Department of Transportation retiring after 44 years.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church (1960+) in New Bern. His many activities included Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Baptist Men's group, Benevolence Committee, and Religious Community Services (RCS) Soup Kitchen volunteer.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, March 17, at 2 pm at the Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park, where he will be interred beside his beloved wife.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church, or to the charity of your choice.
