Cynthia Martenis Obituary

Cynthia "Cindy" Martenis, 61, died on July 15, 2017 in Chesapeake, VA. Cindy was born April 9,
1956 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Frank and Charlotte Martenis.
Cindy was a creative and driven person who served her country in the U.S. Marine Corps in her
early twenties. After her active duty service she answered to her more free-spirited nature and
moved out to California with her best friend, eventually meeting and marrying a Navy diver who
swept her off to Scotland. Upon returning, Cindy gave birth to the first of her two daughters and
continued to move throughout the country, keeping up with the duties of being a mother and a
Navy wife.
As her daughters grew up and began taking more care of themselves, Cindy kept busy and
earned a bachelor's degree in History and became an elementary school teacher in New Bern,
NC. Eventually, Cindy's desire to keep moving crept in once again and she pursued a new
career avenue as a TSA agent and made many close friends at the small New Bern airport.
Following in their mother's footsteps, both of Cindy's daughters served in the armed forces and
went on to pursue success through higher education and training to reach goals they set before
themselves. In 2012 Cindy became a grandmother and, in time, decided to move to
Chesapeake, VA to form an unbreakable bond with her grandchild. They loved each other
dearly and Cindy's creativity and imagination allowed for them to create their own special world
in which they played.
The immediate family will be holding a private gathering to honor and celebrate Cindy's life.
