NEW BERN - Mr. James Arthur Regan, 52 passed away, surrounded by the love of his family, on Thursday, February 21, 2013. He was taken too early, after a brief, but courageous, battle with pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melanie Mead Regan in 2002, and best canine bud "Lucky" last year.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 2, 2013, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, followed by funeral Mass with Father Gregory Spencer officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Reception will follow with food, drinks, music and memories. Open for all who loved him. Details available at time of service. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Kara A. Regan and husband, Thomas Lawrence, of Saint Louis, MO; his son, James "JJ" Regan, and wife Marcy Beth, of Havelock; granddaughter, Tyler Anne Lawrence, and canine companion "Lucy-Lu." He is expecting 2 more grandchildren in 2013. As the youngest of 4 children, Jim is also survived by Maureen DaBiero, and husband Sal, of Virginia Beach, VA; Patricia Sparks, and husband Larry, of Havelock; and Kim Bryant, and husband Curtis, of Suffolk, VA. He is well remembered by many nieces, nephews, grand-niece/nephews, in-laws, and close friends.

He graduated the Physician Assistant program at Wake Forest University in 1993 and has been a practicing Family Medicine/Urgent Care/Emergency Medicine PA in Eastern North Carolina for 20 years. He loved the medical field. He loved to teach and learn. He loved his patients and helping any in need. He most enjoyed the outdoors, boating, fishing, exploring, mining, treasure hunting, causing mischief, snow skiing, wonders of the world and universe, and ancient aliens.

He will be greatly missed and he was loved by so many!!

I just today heard of Jim's passing. I was so shocked and saddened by his much to early passing. The obituary summarizes him so perfect. He was one of the funniest, quick-witted(his short temper made me work faster!) PAs I had the pleasure to work with. He was always willing to teach me about the job and I always wanted to learn. Truly a great man and I am honored to have known and been able to work with him.

I knew Jim from working in the ER at Cherry Point. I had the pleasure working with him twice during my husbands transfers to Az and then back to N.C. He was fun loving, loved to teach and was very knowledgeable in many things. He touched my life in many ways. Rest in peace my friend. Many will miss you and your fishing stories.

My heart goes out to the family of my friend Jimmy Regan. I surely will miss Jim's wit, sense of humor, and genuine concern for others. I enjoyed any opportunity to share time with him as it always began and ended with a big time smile. I wish him God speed and peace. To his terrific children, please take comfort in knowing that he is in very good hands. God Bless.
