James Squires Obituary

James Robert Squires Sr., 77, 613 Jimmies Creek, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at Vidant Hospice, Greenville.

He was a 1953 graduate of Pamlico Training School and retired from NADEP in 1995. He was a member of Zion Hill United Church of Christ and the Idaila Hunting Club.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Mt. Olive MB Church, Mesic with Marc Bowks officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery, Florence Community of Merritt.

He is survived by his wife, Elitrous Glenda Squires of New Bern; four sons, David Squires of Pineville, Timothy Squires of Atlanta, Stuart Squires of Fayetteville, and Gene Squires of Raleigh; three daughters, Demetris Thornton of Fayetteville, Elitrous Faye Squires of Greenville and Kimberley Squires of Fayetteville; five brothers, Clarence A. Squires and Thomas L. Squires of the Florence Community, Gene D. Squires of Durham, Melvin Gibbs Squires of Florence, S.C. and Alford Jarvis of Augusta, Ga.; five sisters, Lucille Midgette of Portsmouth, Va., Anne Canty of Cambria Heights, N.Y., Nicia Squires of Queens Village, N.Y., Lillie Wright of Hamden, Conn. and Norma Bowks of Hubert; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the residence. Viewing hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, at Oscar's Mortuary.
