A longtime resident of Havelock, Joe was a retired security manager at Cherry Point. He was an avid member of the Blue Knights, loved the outdoors and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Joe continued working after retirement as a policeman with several communities including New Bern, Havelock, and Morehead City, to name a few.
Joe's celebration of his life was held Monday, October 20, 2008, at Pollock-Best Funeral Home in New Bern with Bob Caffin officiating.
Joe is survived by his wife, Judy Elliott Cagley; mother, Charlotte Jean Cagley; children, Carla Schmucker, Steve Schmucker and Mike Pierce. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Steve West and Jaime West; and great-grandchildren, Mike and Brianna Pierce, Christine Brandt, Alex Pease, and Steve Schmucker.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Officer Down Memorials, P.O. Box 1047, Fairfax, Va. 22038-1047.
Pollock-Best is assisting the Cagley family.

We remember Joe from McCotter Blvd Baptist Church. That seemed like a long time ago. Rest In Peace, and "Well Done Good and Faithful Servant."

Turly a sorrowful moment when I found out that Joe had passed. I worked with Joe when he worked at PMO. Those were some good times because he was a good person. My sympathy goes to his family.
