William Murphy Obituary

NEW BERN - William E. Murphy Sr. 73, of 202 Capeson Lane, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012.

He was a native of the Tuscarora-Rhems Community of Craven County and was employed as a truck driver for Ready Mix Cement and as a chef at the Berne Restaurant.

His funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at St. Matthew DOC Church of Christ of Riverdale with the Rev. Cleophus Gooding officiating. The burial will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery, Tuscarora.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Murphy of the home; his father and stepmother, George and Hattie Murphy of New Bern; four sons, William E. Murphy Jr. of Laurelton, N.Y., Anthony Murphy of Greenville, Randy Murphy of New Bern, Tracy Murphy of Durham; two daughters, Patricia Murphy Coleman of York Town, Va. and Helen Murphy Long of New Bern; two brothers, Nathaniel Staten of Far Rockway, N.Y. and George Murphy Jr. of New Bern; three sisters, Edna Massey and Esther Burden, both of New Bern and Mary Green of Springfield, Mass.; five step-daughters, Ellen Koonce, Marilyn Wright, Beverly Harris, all of New Bern, Linda Herring of Elizabeth City, and Karen Craghead of Jacksonville; four step-sons, Eddie Herring and Ervin Herring of New Bern and Ralph Uzzell of Kinston; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the residence. Viewing hours are Friday at Oscar's Mortuary from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
