GREENVILLE — Jean Stone Gayle, widow of James C. Gayle, formerly of Oakview Drive in Greenville, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Gardens of Eastside where she had resided for the past year.
Born on March 17, 1927 in Newberry, she was the daughter of the late William Oscar and Lucille Kinard Stone.
She attended Newberry College after which she moved to Greenville and lived for 65 years. Jean was a loving and devoted member of St. Michael Lutheran Church where she was faithfully involved with social ministry and the Women of the ELCA. She worked on Mondays for many years at United Ministries.
In her younger years she was employed by Canal Insurance and later by Gary Hester Interiors as a bookkeeper.
Jean will be remembered for her generous heart and hospitality.
Surviving are son, Michael Craven; brother, Bill Stone and wife, Barbara; daughter-in-law, Anne Craven; grandchildren, Ryan Craven and wife, Teresa, Jimmy Craven and wife, Ivy, Elizabeth Dickerson and husband, Colin, Will Craven and wife, Elizabeth; several great-grandchildren; niece, Melanie Acton and husband, James; nephew, Marc Stone; and great nieces, Lindsay, Lauren, and Erin. She was preceded in death by son, Patrick Stone Craven.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park followed by visitation at the church.
