Mildred Hurst Obituary

WHITMIRE — Mildred Jones Hurst, 85, widow of William Evan Hurst, died Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Born on January 22, 1936, in Whitmire, she was a daughter of the late Bosie "Bo" and Maggie Lee Bishop Jones. She served in the U.S. Air Force and was a former member of McCullough Presbyterian Church. She along with her husband who served a full career in the military and traveled throughout the United States. She had worked at the Sumter National Park. Mrs. Hurst loved fishing, shopping on the QVC Home Shopping Network and most importantly, enjoyed living life to fullest. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were extremely important to her.

She is survived by sons, David (Alene) Hurst of Newberry, Donald Hurst and Richard Hurst both of Whitmire; a daughter, Lori Hurst Brown of Newberry; sisters, Marjorie Matthews and Reba (Ernest) Werts; grandchildren, David (Shannon) Hurst Jr., Barbara Hurst and fiancée, Brandon and Ashley Fain and great-grandchildren, Natalie, Lauren, Aiden, Maggie, Charleston and Harper.

Mrs. Hurst was predeceased by a siblings, Colleeen Fowler, Boyd Jones, William Jones, John Jones, Clarence Jones, Marvin Jones and Earl Jones.

Private cryptside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021, at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Leon Rawls.
