FARMINGTON
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Butch Lucian Nachilly of Farmington, CT, on September 12, 2025.
Born on April 6, 1932, to Joseph and Sophie (Balkan) Nachilly, Butch was the youngest of 10 children. He attended New Britain High School along with his siblings. Butch proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class and was awarded a Bronze Star for his conduct in battle.
After returning home, Butch earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Barbara Bobbie Bernacki, and together they built a beautiful home in Farmington, CT, where they raised their three children.
Butch devoted 35 years to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, where he rose to the position of Superintendent of the Experimental Test Division. Outside of work, he was an active member of the Jesters and the Hartford Canoe Club.
A gifted athlete, Butch excelled in fast-pitch softball, loved skiing and enjoyed golfing with his family and grandchildren. His passion for music was lifelong; after building his first guitar as a young man, he went on to play with various bluegrass groups throughout his retirement. In his later years, Butch's inquisitive and creative nature remained, as he spent countless hours in his workshop, crafting toys for his grandchildren and fixing things around the house.
Butch was predeceased by his wife of sixty-two years, Bobbie, and grandson Bernard Shea. He is survived by his children and their spouses: John J. Nachilly and Diana DeValk of Durham, NC; Keith and Mabel Nachilly of Jupiter, FL; and Audrey and James Shea of Farmington, CT. He also leaves behind his three grandchildren, whom he adored: Tyler, Erin, and Sebastian. He will be remembered for his knowledge, music, exquisite craftsmanship and the love he shared with his family. His life was a blessing, and his memory is a treasure we will hold onto forever.
A private service will be held for close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc.,
