Archie Golden Obituary

Dr. Archie S. Golden
Archie Golden, MD, MPH, of Baltimore, Maryland, former Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Associate Professor in the Department of International Health at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, passed away August 16, 2022, age 91.
Dr. Golden was born to Isadore and Evelyn Golden and grew up in New Milford, CT. A graduate of New Milford High School, University of Connecticut, University of Vermont College of Medicine, and The Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene & Public Health. He received his pediatric training at the Lenox Hill and Bellevue Hospitals in NYC.
His proudest achievement was providing care for children most in need. While captain in the US Army in South Korea, he was doctor to American and Korean children including two orphanages. With Project Hope, he trained community health workers and treated patients in Peru, Colombia and the Navajo Indian Reservation, Ganado, AZ. He founded the Johns Hopkins Health Associates Program, one of the first physician assistant and physician associate programs in the US, and was a pioneer in developing programs simulating doctor-patient interactions which are used in medical schools globally today.
Archie was an avid gardener, senior softball player, steadfast Orioles fan and loyal to UConn Huskies' basketball.
He is survived by his devoted partner, Penny Cordish; his daughters, Jenifer, Judith, and Justine Golden; two grandchildren and son-in-law; and sisters, Alice Gaines and Bernice Schwab. He was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia Golden, and brother Charles Golden.
