Carolyn Clevenger Whitworth

Born: November 3, 1938 | Died: May 19, 2025

Carolyn Clevenger Whitworth, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully at her residence on May 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 3, 1938, in Newport, TN, she exemplified a life filled with faith, devotion, and service to others.

Carolyn is survived by her children, John Wayne Whitworth, Jr. , Rhonda Jones (Steve), Suzanne Patterson (Yancey), Samuel Whitworth (Adrianna), Rachael Gantt (Todd), and Joy Godwin (Phillip). She was also a proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren; Anna Sepulveda, Ryan Godwin (Katlyn), Whitney Varnadore, Brent Hunt, Joshua Whitworth, Wayne Baumgarner, Jr., Brandon Gantt (Kaitlynn), Samantha Dixon (Ethan), Daniel Whitworth (Cristin), Abby Godwin; and step-grandchildren, Ashley, Jessie and Whitney Patterson, Santiago and Mariana Quintero and a loving great-grandmother to many wonderful great-grandchildren, all of whom brought joy and pride to her heart and also a sister, Barbara Ann Moore.

Carolyn leaves behind the enduring legacy of her devotion to her family and her unwavering spirit of kindness. She was also a wonderful singer and songwriter. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Donald Clevenger and Margaret Alene Fine Clevenger, as well as her siblings, Gloria McDonald, Linda Eckard, Quindell Lee Clevenger, and Cynthia Denise Clevenger and the father of her children, John Wayne Whitworth, Sr.

A celebration of life was held May 27th in NC.
