David Shytle Obituary

David (Harold) Johnathan Shytle Sr., known as Ranger Dave, 70, of Newport, passed away on September 20. Born March 2, 1955, he was adopted by James Blain Shytle. He is preceded in death by his parents Katie Frances Johnson and Harrom Junior Duncan, stepson Travis, and step-grandson Xander. Survived by his brother Rubin (Lisa), son David Jr. (Meagan), ten grandchildren, and wife Antonia (Toni) Hunton-Shytle.

David was in ROTC, attended US Army ROTC at Georgia Military College, earned an Associate's Degree, completed Airborne School, and served in the US Army Reserve.

Dave and Toni returned to America in 2017 after living in New Zealand, settling in Newport. With over 70 years of combined hospitality experience, Dave and Toni launched Two Shy Chefs, a food truck that served over 8,000 veterans and first responders through their Veteran Discount Meals program during its five-year operation.

He was cremated on September 22 and returned home to Toni and their two dogs. A celebration of life will be held at the DAV on Pine Street in Newport on October 5, from 1 to 4 p.m., with Taps at 3 p.m. Cards may be sent to Toni at 1705 Mellow Road, Newport, TN, 37821, or brought to the ceremony.
