Alan Derrah Obituary
Alan S. Derrah died after a brief illness on April 2, 2021 at age 86 in Leesburg, Florida.
Al was born and raised in Lynn, MA and graduated from Lynn English High School. He was a former long-term resident of Newport employed by Raytheon Corp. for over 30 years as a technical writer. He then worked as a free-lance writer for many years and lived throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire before retiring to The Villages in central Florida.
Al was always working on home improvement projects. He built a vacation home from the ground up in Tamworth, NH where he enjoyed skiing. He was a life-long Boston Bruins fan. After retiring, he became an accomplished pool player and was on several leagues. He had a woodworking shop in his garage and made furniture for his home. He loved to read and spent time attending a variety of on-line college courses.
Al is survived by his wife Mary of Lady Lake FL; his former wife Jeanne of Portsmouth; his sister Helen Foley of Lancaster SC; his children David and Steven of Middletown, Thomas of Houston TX, Kristin and Daniel of Philadelphia PA; his grandchildren Haley Heasley and husband Adam, Aimee Derrah, Fallon Derrah, Kai Kumalai; and his great grandson Anders Heasley. He will be greatly missed.
A private family memorial service will be held in Newport in the near future.

I worked with Al Derrah at the Publications Department of Raytheon, for many years.
He was always helpful, accomodating and non-judgemental.
A very level-headed, even-tempered and thoughtful man who handled his co-workers with professional fairness.
