Donna, so sorry for your loss. I worked with him for many years at Newport OR. Such a kind and respectful person. He was a pleasure to work with.

I can’t say enough about Dr. Mcburney! I was a patient at the young age of 5 and was very sick I don’t know what would’ve happened if my parents had not found him! He was the best! I remember when I heard he was retiring I actually made an appointment begging him not to go in case I needed him, his answer to me was I need to retire and have fun!

In the past six years, there hasn’t been a day that I didn’t think about the warmth Alex and Donna brought to my life when they welcomed me to Potter Lane.
On Saturdays (yes, all of them), I miss our carpools to the farmers’ market. In the evenings, I miss our dinners at Applebee’s. In summers, I miss the afternoons we spent at the Dunes Club. Always, I miss the warmth of sitting in the brick room, and at their big kitchen table. I miss the peeping of guinea hens, and so much more. When I met the woman who would become my wife, Alex and Donna made Potter Lane feel like a home to her, too. Asha and I will forever miss those halcyon years.
The warmth I felt at Potter Lane reflected the striking warmth Alex and Donna McBurney shared for each other. I recall one family dinner in which a young Sam offhandedly asked if I or Alex would be willing to give our lives for anyone, and will never forget the sheer immediacy and conviction with which Alex replied “I’d give up anything for my wife.” Sam’s eyes widened, and it gave me pause, too. Through the ups and downs of my first long-term relationship (for which Alex and Donna provided me their comfort and counsel), I knew that — above all — I’d be lucky to have a partnership like theirs.
Last February, Asha and I visited Alex and Donna’s new home for the first time. We celebrated our engagement, and asked if Alex and Donna would join us at our wedding in June. Alex — who always struck us as so stoic — began to cry. As a summer unlike any we could have imagined came and went, Asha and I have cherished that moment, and all of the others.
With love,
Jack + Asha

I remember Dr. McBurney as a kind man. As a student nurse at Newport Hospital in the late 70’s , he took the time to explain procedures and the science behind it.
After graduating, I had the pleasure to work with him at Newport and South County Hospital in the operating room.
Rest In Peace good doctor.

A great man and Dr. Loved working in the OR with him (NPH). He always had a smile and a laugh and always respected the nurses.

I hope his family sees all the wonderful tributes on "Friendship St" Facebook page! It is an informal group of past and present Newport Hospital workers. He was so well loved and respected!

I was a new graduate nurse from Wisconsin at Newport Hospital in 1965. Dr McBurney was all our favorite in the operating room.
Skilled surgeon, patient teacher, & light hearted. Fondest of memories!
Rest In Peace. ( 2PCME )
