I met Fern out staking trails for the snowmobile club, he invited my husband and I back to his home, where out in the barn he pulled out a picture book of the first 20+ years of Country Riders Snowmobile Club. He shared stories with every picture in that book, from the first meeting to Ernest getting his truck stuck in the mud. I will never forget that day. I met my Cross Rd neighbor, One of the founders of my favorite snowmobile club and a man who became a dear friend. You were my side kick a last years VAST meeting. I will miss seeing you at club events, I will miss seeing you riding your bike past my house, and the occasional stop in to say hello. I will miss listening to your stories, I will miss seeing you out on the trail, and most of all I will miss my friend! My heart and thoughts go out to your family and friends.

While Fern was always a good farmer and took wonderful care of the Home farm, it's his second act where he truly shined. He was more than a bus driver, as I remember him at many of the home meets, whether track or softball, cheering on the kids. He may not have been related to them by blood , but he took a real interest in their lives and it couldn't help but make you smile. Yes, Fern was one of the good ones...
